A Guide to Shopping at Harris Teeter

Updated 10/1/11

The first thing to keep in mind while shopping at Harris Teeter is that prices vary from store to store, especially in metropolitan areas. The prices I use to do my match ups are from the Hickory, NC area. I post the coupon match up list on Tuesday evenings or Wednesday mornings.

To get the sale prices and double coupons, you must sign up for a VIC card. You can do that online or in any store.  While you are signing up for that card, you will want to become an eVIC customer too.  EVic customers get the ad online, and they receive special offers each week that you cannot get anywhere else.  As an eVic customer you can also add eVic electronic coupons to your card when you sign up.

Harris Teeter accepts manufacturer’s coupons, winetags, catalina coupons, internet printables, blinkie coupons, as well as competitors coupons for an amount off of a certain purchase (like $5 off $50 purchase).

Harris Teeter will double any coupon that allows doubling up to $.99 every day.  Harris Teeter occasionally has unannounced special coupon events.  In that case, I try to get a list for you early. During Super Doubles, they will double up to $1.98 coupon, and during triples, they will triple coupons up to $.99.

In other words:

a $.75 coupon will double to $1.50 any day

a  $1.25 coupon will double to $2.50 during Super Doubles

a $.75 coupon will triple up to $2.25 during Triple Coupons

My store will not double or triple coupons that state Do Not Double (DND) but some stores will, so be careful and plan ahead.  I try to indicate the coupons I know say DND, but I may miss some.

Remember when shopping:

  • Only 20 doubled or tripled coupons per day per customer.  Any coupons after the first 20 will be taken at face value.
  • Two coupons are allowed on BOGO items, although some stores/cashiers still follow the old rule about only one coupon per BOGO .
  • BOGO items ring up half price, so you don’t have to buy two.
  • Harris Teeter will double up to three identical items with manufacturer coupon; additional coupons for like items will be honored at face value.
  • No internet printable coupons for “FREE” items or BOGO items. They will not accept internet coupons that do not appear to be originals or that won’t scan.
  • Limit of 2 Internet Printable coupons per item, per store visit, per day.
  • eVIC coupons can be accepted along with paper coupons, however will not be doubled.
  • They will accept local competitors’ manufacturer coupons.  (Like manufacturer coupons that say Target, Walmart, or Food Lion).

Happy Shopping!

For the BOGO items and their coupons…they only made the rule for one coupon per BOGO sale during triples week and super doubles week. The rest of the time, it works just fine..just used 2 coupons Sunday for Magnum Ice Cream that was BOGO and no problems at all. Just thought I’d let ya know. Have a great day!

I did my big Super Double trip today & my store allows multiple BOGO coupons (I think I had 7 or 8 today)….but, they do hold to the policy of 3 identical items coupons. I spent $47 and saved almost $129. =)

I have an HT question that I haven’t seen addressed on your site (I don’t think). I get the weekly evic emails, and in the email that lists special deals just for your evic card and just for a few days, it often says something like, “$2.00 each, limit four, must buy all 4 in the same transaction to get the special price.” So, is it really LIMIT four? Or you have to buy 4? In this case, isn’t the deal really 4 for $8 and not $2 each (since you can’t just get one or two)?

I h0pe this makes sense. It sounds crazy now that I’ve typed it out. But I don’t want four boxes of Rice Krispies this week, so I thought I’d come ask. Thanks!

Generally, it is not required that you buy all 4 items to get the e-Vic deal. You could just buy one cereal and get it for $2 in this case. However, you just can’t break it up into 2 transactions and get the $2.00 price in both transactions.

There is always a limit, when it comes to the E-Vic items.

if it is a limit of 2 and you just want 1 that is fine. but once you buy it, that deal is no longer available to you. so you can’t change your mind later. the only exception it if it is an e-vic BOGO you will have to buy 1 to get the other 1 free. It will not ring up half price like regular vic sale items.

Went to Harris Teeter today with my 20 coupons in hand, so did my husband. But they wouldn’t double all of my coupons. They said it was because my husband & I are on the same Vic Card. We’ve always been able to do this in the past. I thought it waas 20 coupons per customer; not 2o coupons per Vic Card. Is this a new HT policy? Has anyone else had this happen?

It looks like its on their policy : “We accept 20 double coupons per day per customer/household with VIC card; all others redeemed at face value. No orders may be separated that would allow the 20 coupon limit or any other coupon limits to be exceeded.”

I am a newbie to double & triple coupon’s. I went to harris teeter for their triple coupons. I used $ 1 dollar off coupon… when i looked at my reciept i notice it didn’t double or triple… it just took a dollar off like the coupon was for. other than the amount my vic card took off. Did i do something wrong. Do they not triple coupons that are $1.00? Not sure how it works still finding things out. i know it was up to 99 cents.

Alyssa,

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond, I missed your question somehow. They will only double coupons that are less than $1. $1.00 coupons will not double unless they are having a special coupon event called Super Doubles!

ok, I have a question it might sound silly but here goes. On there website it says they accept circular or direct-mail coupons for money off of the total order.
What does this mean can I bring in the goodstart coupons I get in the mail every month and they just take the total off my order? If so do they limit how much per trasaction?

You would have to buy Good Start, I would think. They mean other stores coupons like Lowes Foods or Food Lion.

Can coupons be used on the “Meal Deal” items?

Coupon Teacher October 11, 2011 at 7:30 pm

Yes, if you have them.

Ok since they will accept competitors coupons so if I have a target coupon will it double or be face value…. I didn’t know if it’s not a manufactures coupon… I hope this makes since. Thanks

I have always wondered about this….if there is a BOGO sale and I have a coupon for $1 off two, can I use it? Or would they say I am only “buying” one, and the other is free? We have a lot of coupons that are $1/2. Thanks!

You should be able to, but sometimes you might get a stubborn cashier. But I have done it many times, and it is allowed in their coupon policy.

I am new to Harris Teeter as I am moving from FL to NC. In FL I shopped at Publix and followed the blog iheartpublix.com What about for Harris Teeter? It looks like I can only see like just a few items with the matchups. Help!

Did you click Display All Matchups under the first 5 matchups, it will show you the entire list for the week. I include all advertised coupon matchups, and sometimes some other unadvertised deals. Hope this helps!!

If i have a catalina coupon from another store can I use it at HT?

Reply

Coupon Teacher February 19, 2012 at 6:52 pm

I think that is a case where the store will decide how to interpret that one. I have heard of many Harris Teeter store that will, but I don’t think mine will.

New to e-vic….
SO if I have an e-vic coupon on my card, and a paper MQ coupon for the same item will both be allowed for same item? If not, how to I get my paper coupon to apply if it’s more than my e-Vic coupon?
Thanks
