Hubby and his favorite cookies taught me a lesson this week.
I spent $3.99. Yes, $3.99 on Oreos this week.
Here is how it went…
Me: Going to the store, is there anything you want?
Hubby: Cookies.
Me: Chips Ahoy are BOGO this week, so I will get you two packs.
Hubby: Those sound good, but I really want some Oreos too.
Me: Oreos are expensive and not on sale, we will see.
Hubby: Please.
Me: Maybe.
Hubby: I will transfer you $3 from my lunch money if you will get them for me.
Me: Speechless. Guilty. Convicted. Ugly. Sorry.
This week I was reminded that doing little things for the people we love is more important than saving $2. Perhaps I won’t buy Oreos every time. And sometimes Oreos will be on sale.
But now and then, hubby is going to get $3.99 Oreos. Because he is important. He is loved. And buying full priced Oreos is one way I can show it.
My lesson learned is my success story for the week.
Do you have a success story to share?

I love your story Shelly! Sometimes we get so wrapped up in saving that we forget why we are doing it~ to help our families. But loving our familes is so much more important than saving a few dollars. Thank you for reminding me. Now I am going to buy my husband fried chicken without a coupon and smile all the way : – )
:)
This was so great I just had the oreo talk with hubby last week. I only shop Harris Teeter and they had them on a bogo last week, He ask if he could get them cus we didnt have a coupon and I said yes. But this made me smile cus we really do get crazy about saving that we miss that a cookie says i love you.
Glad I am not the only one!
Great post, Shelly. Good to remember that if you save enough money in other areas you can “afford” to pay full price for a treat for a loved one. Oreos are a staple at our house!
Thanks Stacie!
I realized the same thing with my hubby’s fav afternoon pick-me-up….Stabucks Frapps….always stock up when on sale….but love is buying him some when NO COUPON OR SALE!!!!! we laugh about it because I will point it out….he loves my couponing and knows my determination so he realizes HOW HARD it is for a couponer to buy something NOT on sale or NO Q!!!! smile~
It is hard!
Successes this week…
1. Posted another food blog recipe with pictures, and have more to post that I already took pictures of. Rather enjoying doing that.
2. Walked for my long exercise day this time with a camera and took some pictures. May decide to document it again on spark page, but not sure. Have to look over the pictures again.
3. Learned how to take apart our DSLR camera which slightly scared me, but it was raining and I somehow had to pack it away to protect it from the rain during my walk.
Still not the best with the camera though, so still have a lot to learn.
Blogging can be so much fun, can’t it? Sounds like you had a great week!
What an awesome story and thanks for sharing! I learned last year after first learning and becoming successful at couponing that it should not be my life. I learned that spending time with my family was more important than trying to find deals. I’m sure your husband felt blessed by you considering his faves. Maybe even filled his “love tank”!
Couponing is definitely not life. It is a way to live life better.
So true!
Food lion has then on sale for 2.99 ;) I looked last night and thought hubby would love them but didn’t but them now after this story I feel bad I didn’t
Thanks for the tip. Maybe I will pick another one up! I was going to BI-LO and didn’t have time to stop anywhere else. :)
love the post! I buy the family size double stuff at Walmart for 3.98 I think.
Thanks Rhonda!
Thank you for reminding us of what’s important! I shared your story with my husband, we have had the same conversation before.
It was really hubby who reminded me, but so glad he did!
You should take the Oreo’s back because they are on sale for $2 this week. I fell into the same trap because I loved them so much!
