New Lowes Foods Opens in Hickory

June 25, 2012

If you are in Hickory or live near Hickory, you know just how weird this looks to me.  The “new Lowes Foods” opened last Monday, June 18th.   I had the opportunity to check it out on Wednesday.

I didn’t buy anything.  I walked around in the store, and it was like an episode of the Twilight Zone.  Everything is in the exact same locations as everything was when it was a Harris Teeter.   Except everything that was Harris Teeter brand is Lowes Foods brand, of course!

It was a weird feeling.

I will still be shopping at Lowes Foods, but not at this one.   Partly because of principle.  Partly because I drive right by another Lowes Foods to get to this store.  (That makes it a no brainer.)

I am still sad for all the employees who lost jobs or had to change jobs.  Hang in there!

I will continue to have Lowes Foods matchups on my site, and in fact have added Lowes Foods sister store, Just Save.

I agree, it’s very strange to see it there. I haven’t gone in yet. I’ve passed by it many times and ended up at the 29th Ave. store to avoid that one.

The 29th Ave store is closer to me, so that is where I will do my shopping. :)

Like you I have been in the Twilight Zone only instead of shopping in Lowes, I am now going to HT; I am in the Charlotte market. It has been a big change but I am doing my best. I am waiting for Recycle Banks to put their voucher for HT back. We can do it!!!

Yes, we will make it!

It just might take a little getting used to!

I to hate that Harris Teeter is gone in Hickory. I live in Lenoir so I am not to impressed with Just Save and they don’t double coupons so there now is no grocery stores near me that double. I did drive to Boone this weekend to go to Harris Teeter for their super Doubles though.

Wow! That was quick! Our old Lowes Foods store has a been sign saying “HARRIS TEETER COMING SOON!” I am going to miss Lowes Foods! Harris Teeter is ok, but I enjoyed Lowes Foods customer service!

Thank you for the ‘Update Price List’ post. I will have to do that when I get a chance.

It is so crazy to me that they made consumers on both sides upset.

I also will not step a foot into that store because it will always be HT to me. The 29th ave store is minutes from my house so I feel no need to shop at this “new” store. I have been going to Lincolnton for HT deals. That store may get so much traffic they will make it bigger I’m hearing. I hope Publix one day decides to come to Hickory. Lowes needs some competition and I need more options.

I probably need to drive to Harris Teeter too. My main catch is I know I won’t have time during the school year. So I guess I am figuring my time is better spent learning the stores around here better….

Not sure what to do!

I have not set foot in that store and do not plan to shop there. The 29th Ave. store is a little closer for me also. I did make a trip to Lincolnton for Super Doubles. They were out of Smart Balance milk, Simply Potatoes, and Hanover baked beans, but I did save enough to justify the gas to drive down there and back.

That store is getting alot of traffic now. Bad move on Harris-Teeter part to close stores because now the stores that are left that the closest to people are going to be out of stock constantly. People just will not shop at one store-they want options. Me and my aunt are going to carpool each weekend and save on gas. I got rainchecks for the milk, the beans and cereal. I will be going back tommorrow night for my second trip with her.

This whole Lowes Food-Harris Teeter trading of store locations just sucks. I’m in the Mint Hill area and would have to drive all the way to another side of Charlotte for a Lowes Food store. I wish they wouldn’t have made all the employees have to compete for their old jobs back. I think that’s unfair.

I’ve met a few people who have been out of work here because of the switch and now they’re worried about whether or not they’ll be able to find another job because they still haven’t heard anything about being rehired. For me having two Harris Teeters so close together just doesn’t make sense.
