Free and Cheap Fall Fun::Thrifty Thursday

October 13, 2011

I looked back at last year’s list for some inspiration, but I added a couple of my new favorite things to do too!

  1. Take a walk and enjoy the cooler weather, pretty leaves, and beautiful sunshine.
  2. Buy a pumpkin, any pumpkin. Carve a pumpkin. Not into carving? Make your own pumpkin puree.
  3. Clean out a closet to find your winter clothes.  Donate what you don’t need (or that don’t fit anymore…yikes).
  4. Use a free code to rent a movie from a Redbox or Blockbuster Kiosk.  Add popcorn and/or hot chocolate.
  5. Work in the yard.  Yes, it can be fun.  Even if it isn’t, you will be able to appreciate that work all winter long!
  6. Harvest, eat, can or dry anything left in your garden.   (None for me this year!)
  7. Try a new soup recipe or perhaps some new ingredients!
  8. Rake the yard and jump in the leaves.  You will feel like a kid again!
  9. Check out a good book from the library, sip some hot tea, and enjoy a pumpkin candle!
  10. Send someone a card, just because.  Or better yet, plan a visit with a friend you haven’t seen in a while.

What is your favorite thing to do in the fall?

Walking is my favorite fall activity. I grew up in the midwest and am now in the southeast and soooooo miss a “real” fall season.

Fall is my favorite time of the year…so it is hard to choose just 1 favorite thing to do! We love to bake certain foods in the Fall season! I also love pumpkin decorating! The kids and I do enjoy getting a movie ( they love Hocus Pocus or Wizard of Oz) and having popcorn, and cuddling! Great list…now I want to go jump in some leaves!!!! WEEEE!

So this pumpkin puree you made a few years ago, did it turn out well in the cookies/cakes, etc? I may do this myself. Been thinking about it, anyway. But haven’t decided if I should just buy some canned pumpkin or make my own.

I used mine in a pumpkin cake recipe that my mother in law gave me. It was good!
