August Budget Update: (A Little Late!)

September 5, 2011

So, I am not telling you who had receipts all over her house…. But that someone finally had time to enter them into her spreadsheet today.  ;)

I usually try to update you on my budget on the 1st, but the 5th works too right?

We are still working on paying down some debts, but overall, I am happy with our progress!

Considering I stocked up for back to school, I was pretty pleased with our grocery shopping for this month too!

Total Shelf Cost:  $802.36

Total Savings:     $534.99

Amount Paid (after rebates):   $267.37

Savings Rate:   66.68%

Not too bad for a busy teacher during the first month of school!

How was your August budget?

you did wonderful…we don’t have debts at all…but we saved this month a mere 25%…wondering if that works when 75% of the time we do shop mostly at Indian stores who do not coupon at all…

I have gone to the low tech method where I enter my recipts when I get home into a little notebook that I leave in the drawer so I add up each week what I have spent. I do almost everything in my life in a spreadsheet except the grocery/drugstore spending :) That way I know where I am at through the month without guessing and I carry it with me if I need reminding. I also stopped writting in the savings. I don’t know whether that is good or bad but right now I try to spend no more then $150 per month for our household needs. I have done really well for three months and hope to do it again this month. I find that I buy some stuff that I wouldn’t have bought “BC” (before couponing) so it is hard to count it as savings for me. Question that I have had is about the rebates- Do you count them when you buy and submit the stuff or only when you get the cash in hand? I am having a hard time counting that in the spending for the month. I do put it in the budget spreadsheet as a line item so that I know what is incoming but I never put it back into the budget to use. Any ideas??

When I did more rebates, I counted it as money out. Then when the checks came, I put them straight into my savings account. It was an easy way for me to save some extra money.
