June Budget Update: Spend, Spend, Spend

July 1, 2011

You all know I try to be honest with you.  Especially when it comes to the budget update.

For almost a year, we bought very few things.  We saved.  We scraped.  We paid off debts.

In May, we bought our house.  Buying our house seems to have unleashed a huge spending spree.  Namely by me.  Things for the house, clothes for me, stockpile items, you name it I have bought it in May and June.  Now be sure, I have still been getting good deals.  I have just been buying too much in too short of a time frame.  The budget needs time to catch up.

The bills are coming in.  We can pay them.  Barely.  I really, really need to rein in my spending again.

I know some of you are the same, so let’s encourage each other!  I am hoping to get back to saving for purchases before we make them!!

Grocery Budget

Shelf Cost: $695.13

Out of Pocket Cost: $242.21 (see, I told you!)

Rebates: $10.00

Percentage Saved: 65.16%

These past few months with the move have not been the best ever…

I am going to make at least 70% savings my goal for July!

How is your budget looking?

Thats ok. After purchasing your home you know (lol) you have to go shopping. It’s yourtreat for all the hard work you put in. It’s just like when you have your first baby and everyone tells you not to buy this or that. You have to experience it. You will be back on track soon. Enjoy your new home.

Yeah I’m worried we don’t get my VA money when I’m not in school for the summer and that is my “JOB” I put the grocrey money away (2 out of 4 weeks a month) but when DD and DH go back to school in 2 weeks I’ll have 5 weeks of free time and no money to spend, I’ve got to be good!

Thank you for being so honest. I get in such spending sprees myself and then scold myself for doing it again. I was being so good and on track like never before. Why do I do this to myself (and family). Your honestly is very encouraging that many of us struggle in this area.

Thanks for sharing this. I thought I was doing good about 3 wks ago when I got $400 worth or groceries for $180. Thing is..most of it is still left. The reason why is that after getting off at 7pm; I am usually to tired to come home & cook and we have been eating out. DH is unable to stand long enough to cook since his surgery at Christmas. I feel sick to my stomach when I pay at restaurants…knowing how much groceries that money could have bought. There; I have been making myself cook this week. I also splurged on an insulated “iced coffee cup” & have been drinking the free fresh spring water from work (w/add in’s of course) instead of buying sodas each day. I just have to keep reminding myself why & homemade tastes sooo much better!

I’ve deemed July my “no spending because I don’t get paid again until the end of August” month. I know that “no” spending is unrealistic so I actually am trying the less spending technique of putting budgeted cash into envelopes for different spending categories. When the money in an envelope is gone, I’ll try to stick to my guns to tough out the rest of the month without adding more. I’ve already, after one day, noticed a change in my spending thinking…like not stopping at DQ for a Blizzard when I was running errands yesterday. Good luck in reaching your goals this month and congrats on the new house!
