This was my early garden last year. It is time to start planting around here.
I have come to the realization that this year my garden is going to have to wait. It might not happen at all this year. My in-laws are buying our house very soon, and during the first week of May, we will be moving to a new house.
It has been so crazy around here, that we haven’t even been able to start the garden for my in-laws. I know they will hop to it once they get here, and I hope they will be able to have a wonderful garden.
At the very minimum, I am hoping to plant some tomato plants that I ordered in pots. I have never really had success with planting tomatoes in pots, but I am just not sure that I will be able to get a garden started this year at our new house.
All this being said, I am already having gardening withdrawals. I would love to see pictures of your seedlings, gardens, or produce. I plan to do a garden update on most Sunday afternoons, and I would love to share your garden progress with all my readers!
If you have a garden story or pictures to share, email me at shellycouponteacher at gmail dot com. If you don’t have a garden, join us. It is a fun way to get cheap and healthy produce!

I have started a few things inside already as well, but we can’t get anything in the ground until mothers day! I wish I lived in a warmer climate! My strawberry patch really took off this past year, and hopefully with the net I have over it this year, the rabbits and birds will stay away so we can enjoy at least ONE strawberry! I love making Strawberry Jam, and although it contains a LOT of sugar, I feel like its at least a *little* healthier because it doesn’t contain artificial colors and other things that my kids dont need! We also canned peaches last year and applesauce! I thought that I had made enough, but aparently 28 jars of peaches doesn’t last our family of 6 very long! I cant wait to see everyones progress either!!
Sounds like you are raring to go! Hope you are able to get started soon!
Oh boy I love to garden. I plan on writing a post on out garden tonight or tomorrow. I will pass it along when I do! ;)
Thanks Jessica, I would love to use a picture and link to you next week!
I know exactly how you feel. It was this exact time last year we were trying to close on our house, pack, move…forget the garden. I tried, but it was too hot when the lettuce went in and they ended up neglected. I had the bright idea to try and eat it anyway after they bolted…something I do not recommend if you have taste buds.
This year I’m only doing a small 10×4 plot in the ground in which I’m giving sister planting a try – beans, corn, and squash. The dogs have already torn half of it up and my son deemed it his new “dirt box” so I’m not holding out hope for much productivity there.
The rest went into containers. Tomatoes, cucumber, various peppers, brussels, cauliflower, spinach, arugula, various lettuces, onions, and lots of different herbs. Everything is looking good so far!
I’ve also got some blueberry bushes that are a few years along, so looking forward to the harvest later. Trying strawberries again, never much luck for me, so we’ll see.
Glad I am not the only one who can’t do it all!
Hope you have a great crop this year!
Highly recommend a few of your favorite in containers and then you can take them to your new house–we’ve had much success in containers!
Thanks Amanda. That is my plan!
I planted my very first garden just yesterday and Im super excited, If I grow one thing in it thaty is one less thing I have to buy. i was actually inspired by your pictures last year when you got your very first cuucmber ( I think)
I am so glad I inspired you! You don’t have to know what you are doing, you just have to plant things and see what happens! (I sure don’t know what I am doing.)
