Defrosting My Freezer…

January 8, 2011

I told you I needed to defrost my freezer and it is a lot easier to eat from the stockpile when you know what is in your freezer. To be honest, I was dreading it.  But it was supposed to be below freezing all day, so I decided to get it done! It went a lot faster and easier than I expected.

I really do only have a small chest freezer, but it took 3 big coolers and two little ones to hold everything!

But it was worth it.  I couldn’t fit one more thing into the freezer earlier today.  And now?

I have a ton of space!  I now have room for at least part of the 1/4 beef we received from my in-laws for Christmas!

It feels good to have that accomplished!  Did you get your freezer defrosted?

I just have a fridge/freezer, so I’m limited on what I can buy. I’ve that freezer STUFFED before. I would like to get a deep freezer in the near future. Hubby is up for orders this fall or next year (4yrs already!!!), I might just wait until we move and see what space we have available. I know its an investment that would serve us well. Something that we have to talk about.

I have a huge freezer that we inherited with the house. One thing I found helpful was to have the baggers at the grocery store bag my items Paper in Plastic. When storing food in the freezer, I put all the like things in the same bag(i.e. cheeses, bread, chicken, bags of veggies etc.) Then, I place the entire bag in the freezer. This way I can stack bags on top of one another like they are shelves. When I need something, I can take the bags out quickly and access what I need. I do have an issue with ice build up. I really need to defrost. Winter is the best time since it does stay cold enough outside for storing while cleaning. Thanks!

What a neat idea Sharon! That might help me stay a little more organized down in that deep freezer!
