Garden Update: High Temperatures

July 10, 2010

We finally had some rain yesterday evening!  My garden will be happy, and I am hoping that it will recover.  We have been watering it all week, but most days the temperature was near 100 degrees.

Yes, that is my huge zucchini on the left of the picture, and my three squash plants that just won’t grow on the right.  Any suggestions with my squash?

These are my carrots!  I am getting excited to dig them up, but alas, I will wait a while longer!

I am also patiently waiting for my first pepper that isn’t a jalapeno!

How does your garden grow?

Our squash plants won’t grow either. So far, we have only gotten cucumbers, a few tomatoes, and one picking of green beans. We did get a total of 1″ of rain for the past two nights combined!

I have had a garden for 5 years. Every year, at some point, it gets out of control! Too many plants too close together, too many weeds all of a sudden, that sort of thing. I have also discovered that I cannot grow cucumbers in my garden. I can grow zuccini and gourds so that the vines are huge and taking over everything, though! I think that it all depends on the ph of your soil, and how moist it is- there are certain plants that no matter what I do will not grow here- but my neighbor may have no problem. So don’t feel bad about the squash!

I love seeing other people’s gardens! Yours looks like it is doing so well and it is so green. I am waiting patiently on my peppers to grow too because the peppers are my favorite.
