Thrifty Thursday: Is Couponing a Competition?

Thrifty Thursday

Should a Thrifty Lifestyle Be a Competition?

Here lately the couponing world seems to be very competitive.  The person who came up with the best scenario or with the lowest out of pocket cost is almost revered by some.  Even the comments on my blog lately seem a little competitive.  One wonderful reader even apologized for her Harris Teeter triples totals.
What?!?! We should be celebrating our successes and savings.  Here are a few things to keep in mind about coupon competition.

1.  We are all in this to save money for our families. The reason we do this work is to benefit our families in some way.  If we lose sight of that, then we really have no goal or purpose.

2. Not all families have the same needs. My family doesn’t need 30 sticks of deodorant or any more toothpaste.  However, Kelly @ The Morris Tribe might (she has 9 kids!).  Sometimes the best deals are on things you just don’t need!

3. Being friendly, caring, and honest makes our coupon “jobs” easier. Just think if all couponers were friendly, caring, and honest, how many angry cashiers and unfriendly stores would we run into.  I truly believe that people who use coupons are often lumped together.  If we do our jobs with friendly spirits and integrity, the stores and workers with notice.

4.  Don’t ever feel inferior. We are all on a thrifty journey.  Some are just farther along than others!
