Hubby Started the Garden Today

I have to give him the credit, he did all that tilling work!  The plants will go in sometime this week or next weekend!  This year I am hoping to do a few of each plant (tomatoes, squash, zucchini, peppers, okra, corn, watermelon, and maybe a few more).

I am seriously considering buying landscaping weed barrier this year, because the weeds grow faster than the veggies.  Last year, the crab grass tried to take over and somewhat succeeded.

  • Someone suggested newspapers in between the rows, but down here, we have a ton of earwigs that love to eat wet paper.  So, I am reluctant to try this cheap option.
  • Other people till in between the rows during the summer, but we borrow the tiller we use, so that my not be an option.

Do any of you have ideas for things that work to take care of weeds?

If you are unsure about starting a garden, I can say, just do it!  I don’t have a green thumb, but it is a great way to get healthy, fresh, and cheap produce in the summer!
