Saving Money 101

*I am writing this post in hopes that I can start practicing what I preach.*

We all know that reusable bags are the best for the environment, but did you know that they can also save you money (especially when used consistently)?
  • CVS-Green Bag Tag gives you $1 every four times you get your tag scanned.
  • Target-Bring a reusable bag to get $.05 off your order.
  • Lowes Foods-Get $.05 FRC for each green bag you use.
This is by far a short list!  I highly recommend purchasing a few inexpensive sturdy bags to keep in your car.  These will pay for themselves quickly with use!

What other stores do you shop at that have advantages for going green?

Thanks for the list! Superfresh also gives $0.02 per reusable bag. Not much but it does add up.

Save A Lot and Aldi's, you have to bring your own bags, OR pay so much cents for their bags!

Shelly,

I didn't know that Lowes Foods gives you 0.05 FRC for each green bag that you use!? Does it have to be a Lowes Foods reusable bag?

Thanks

i almost always have my little one with me when i go to the store and so i have made her in charge of bringing the bags along ( i always forget to put them back in the car or bring them into the store)
she loves having her job and get to carry something when she wouldn't otherwise! AND she loves that she is "saving the earth" by helping mommy use these bags!

Bilo also gives you $.05 off of your order.
You have to take your own bags to Bottom Dollar or buy their bags or use boxes from their bin.

Also, look for opportunities to get free reusable bags. Last year several stores did promotions on Earth Day. Walgreens ran a coupon for a free bag, and Food Lion gave a free bag when you purchased natural cleaning products. I have seen Harris Teeter run a weekly special on their bags in the past.
You can also check thrift stores for bags.

Trader Joe's gives a raffle ticket for each back (chance to win TJ's gift card) and Whole Foods gives you .05 towards your purchases.

Every time you use a re-usable bag at Trader Joes you get a ticket in a drawing for a $25 gift card for groceries! I have actually won this and it is a wonderful incentive :D

Whole Foods - .10 off your order or you may choose to donate this amount to a designated cause (at least here in Minnesota)

Kellee, The trick is getting your cashier to give you the credit for them, but it is right on the Fresh Rewards website. The credit should be for each bag as well. 3 bags=$.15 FRC

I need to get a green tag! I keep seeing it and forgetting to buy one.

Local co-ops do the same. Our co-op in our nearest big town gives $.10 per bag!!!!

I think my local grocer will also give you a green bag for bringing in plastic bags.
