January Budget Update

February 2, 2010

I will admit it. I am trying to keep better records this year. I have been tracking my spending at the grocery stores and drugs stores on a monthly basis. I have some numbers to report to you from January during our Eat From the Pantry Challenge. Remember, I have a family of two adults and one kitty.

Amount Paid in Stores: $144.00 for the entire month

Rebates Due: $37.00

Total Savings: $607.17 or 84.85%

Total Spent for Entire Month After Rebates $107.00

I was really excited by these numbers. I have always tried to stay at a savings rate of 67% or above, but this was great! Don’t expect to see these kind of numbers every month, because we did eat a ton from the pantry. I am going to try to stay above 70% though.

The best news of all:

Thanks to this challenge, we were able to move over $600 into savings for our emergency fund and to pay off debt!
