Giveaway Winner

My giveaway winner for the Pretty Please Press books was #14 Jaime.  She is a lucky lady!  Check back tomorrow for a BJ's $25 gift card giveaway.

Riteaid Savings

Don’t forget that the Riteaid Gift of Savings is going on right now!  I really wish I had made it to Riteaid on Black Friday.  Here is what I picked up this afternoon.

DSCN0953

I used the $4 razor coupon from this week’s PG.  I also used the $4 febreze coupon and $.75 crest coupon from last month’s PG.  I had a $5 off a $25 coupon.

My total was $19.15, and I will get $16.99 back in rebates.  I have $32.90 counting toward my Gift of Savings.  The Gillette pack was a pretty popular gift exchange gift for men last year.  Happy Shopping!

Menu Plan Monday

The hustle and bustle of this season is here already!

Monday-Burgers, potatoes, and asparagus                                      Tuesday-Dinner out with hubby
Wednesday-Dinner with friends
Thursday-School Christmas Party (catered dinner)
Friday-Ribs (if I can talk hubby into it, he makes the best ribs in the world), rice, and veggies
Saturday-Finger foods at my Christmas cookie party, meatball recipe

Mail Call!

I had to do one of these posts, because I returned home to a very full mailbox yesterday! I will be putting my mail on hold next time I travel!

This week I received:

8 free movie tickets (from two giveaways)
2 free boxes of General Mills cereal (from two giveaways)
1 coupon for free Jello mousse
$5 rebate check
Kohl's coupons
Office Max coupons
3 $10 off Old Navy Coupons

Wow!  Opening the mail was pretty fun last night, especially since I only got one bill all week last week!

Walgreens Picks (Possible Money Maker!)

I got my info from Mercedes at Common Sense With Money this week.  I didn't have time to research the deals myself.

I got all this for $3.70 after using $3 in RR. Here is how!

I bought 5 Ecotrin  and used the $10/3 and $7/2 from the 10/11 RP.  (This coupon beeped, but my cashier pushed it through. So beware.)  I also used the $1.99 coupon from the Walgreens ad. (This resulted in $7.05 in overage.)  I used the overage to buy the Complete and newspapers.  The best part of this deal is that I got a $8 RR for the Complete.  I could have saved another $1 if I had found the Complete coupon, but I used it at CVS last week.

Black Friday Shopping

Well, I spent too much.  I always do.  This year, however, was a little different.  I did not overspend on my Christmas budget, because I had planned my purchases ahead of time.  I overspent for myself!  I haven’t bought a lot of clothes or shoes for myself for a long time, so I went a little overboard.  Luckily, I can afford it right now.  I definitely got great deals on everything I bought.DSCN0942

My mom looks pretty good at 4 AM!

My sister is in a hurry! Her alarm mysteriously got shut off!

DSCN0945

I am just relaxing on the way to the mall.

DSCN0946

Don’t tell my Brother-in-Law about the 8 pairs of clearance shoes that my sister bought at Shoe Carnival.  Yes all those bags are full of shoes! (I bought 3 pairs of Clarks for $60. These are the only shoes I will wear to school to walk in all day, and one pair usually costs almost as much.)

My two favorite buys for the day were a very cute wool coat for $49 and a new GPS for $89.  I know with a lot of work I might have found these things cheaper, but I was pretty happy and had a great day with my family!

CVS on Thanksgiving

Here is what my mom got at CVS on Thanksgiving morning.  She spent around $12, but she ended up with about $32 ECB!

I decided to show you her orders, because she even did better than me!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. I will be spending my time tomorrow with my family. I hope you all have a blessed day. See you again Friday with some Black Friday shopping pictures!

Menu Plan Monday (No Menu Style)

I am sitting in my dad's recliner reflecting.  The men have left for hunting (get a big buck baby!). My mom has to work for two more days (she is the hardest working person I know), and it is way too early to go over to my sister's house. FAMILY.  I love them.  Although I have chosen to live 5 hours away, other than God and my hubby, my family is tops for me.  So I guess what I am trying to tell you is that I am not cooking this week!  My mom and mother-in-law will be cooking for us, and I can't tell you how grateful I am for the break from the usual. I want to thank them for putting up with us, providing food, and helping us create memories that will last forever.  I will leave you today with a great recipe link.  I have some of this pie Saturday night, and it was the best pie ever!

For some real menu ideas for the week, check out Organizing Junkie.

30 Day Giving Challenge Part 4

30-day-giving-challenge-253x300

I am participating in the 30-Day Giving Challenge at Kingdom First Mom.

I wanted to update you a little about how blessed I feel doing this challenge.  The feeling of doing something good has been reward enough, but I have received many material blessings in return for my giving.  I have won two blog giveaways in the past week (yea for movie tickets!).  I received a gift card for a great new upcoming giveaway.  I have gotten $114 in rebate checks during the last few weeks.  Also, my checking account seems to be a little more abundant.  I know God works in mysterious ways.  I wonder how he would continue to bless me, if I were able to keep this up year round?

Here are my ideas for the week:

Sunday-Give money to church (extra)

Monday-Spend all day with my nephews I haven’t seen since Labor Day (time is an important gift, especially for children)

Tuesday-Taking my brother to a movie (it will happen sometime this week, probably today)

Wednesday-Donating muffin mixes to church pantry

Thursday-Help my Mother-in-law cook for Thanksgiving (as much as I can) or help clean up (hopefully both)

Friday-Showing kindness and consideration for others while I am out shopping in the Black Friday madness (maybe I can also give away a coupon or two)

Saturday-I decided to leave this day open to opportunities.

Sunday-Give money to church (extra)

Monday-I decided to leave this day open to opportunities.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galations 6:9

I left two days open to opportunities.  As this challenge comes to a close, I plan to ask God to reveal a few ways he wants me to give.

My Drug Store Picks

This week is a tough one, because Black Friday falls right in the middle.  I am going to give you a short list of what I hope to pick up at CVS and Riteaid on Sunday.  I won’t be near a Walgreens, but it looks like their best sales will be on Black Friday anyway.  I plan to shop at CVS on Thanksgiving. I will post my scenarios there later this week. Riteaid has some great rebates for Black Friday only, and I will post about those later this week too!

Two Hot Tips for Local Readers (and maybe others)

While I was out and about today, I noticed two deals I wanted to share with you.

Food Lion

The Hickory, NC Food Lion had turkeys for $.37 cents a pound, even though my ad said $.47.  I saw a huge turkey for less than $5!  Check with your ad, because mine said that they would not be undersold by anyone.  I guess Walmart has .40 ones, so the FL priced theirs at $.37

Old Navy

The Hickory, NC Old Navy has all their clearance an extra 50% off.  I imagine it won't last through the weekend, but they are making room for the up coming sales.  If you don't live near me, call your Old Navy before heading out,  because they will tell you if the sale is running or not!

I hope these tips help someone out there!

The Gift of Savings Returns Sunday!

I got this email this morning.  Don't forget that pre-coupon totals have always counted.  Good luck making some money this month at Riteaid!

Anything I missed?

I am proud to be a new contributor to BeCentsAble's Grocery Gathering.

Look What I Did

Sometimes I surprise myself.  Although I am sure that many of you have done this before, I have never even thought about it.  Remember my pumpkins I bought with the rebate at Harris Teeter?  Well, I baked them and got three servings of fresh pumpkin to use in the next few months!

DSCN0923

I have to admit, it started out rocky.  I read online about cutting them in half, and then baking them.  Well, I hacked, sawed, and almost chopped off a finger and didn’t do a bit of good.  So I went back online and found a woman who bakes the whole pumpkin.

1. Remove stems and wash pumpkins

2. Preheat oven to 400 F and bake pumpkins for 60-90 minutes.

3. Allow to cool a while then cut open.

4. Scoop out the seeds and stringy parts.

5. Scoop out the soft flesh, measure, and put into freezer safe containers.

6. Freeze and thaw when needed.

The great part of this is that I didn’t need a food processor or blender. The pumpkin came out the consistency of sweet potatoes!

DSCN0924

I can’t wait to make pumpkin pie, cake, and cookies sometime soon!

A Few Good Deals At Harris Teeter

DSCN0925
All of these coupons came from the 11/15 paper, except for the steamfresh coupon.

$.50/2 Sargento=$2.15/2
$.50/1 ICBINB=$.49
$.60/1 Bertolli=$.24

My total was just over $3.  Happy Shopping!

I Rocked at Riteaid Today

DSCN0927

I did two separate transactions, so that I could send in two separate rebates.

Transaction #1 (on the left)

I bought 2 Quilted Northern and 2 GE light bulbs.  I used $1/1 coupons for each item.  I also had a Riteaid coupon for $5/2 on the toilet paper. Because my total before coupons was over $15, I used a $3/$15 purchase coupon too.

OOP $5.01  I will receive $2 in Riteaid rebates, and I have enough other purchases to submit for a $5 Real Simple rebate for the toilet paper.

Transaction #2 (on right)

I bought one case of water, 10 peanuts, 1 tampons, and 1 toothpaste.  I had 3 $1/2 coupons for the peanuts, $1/1 for the tampons, and $.75/1 for the toothpaste.  I also used a $5 off $25 purchase coupon.  Then I used my $20 Riteaid gift of savings certificate.

OOP $2.34 I will receive $9.69 in Riteaid rebates, and I will be able to submit the peanuts for the $10 Kraft rebate.

Overall for the day, I was able to get everything in the picture for $7.35/$20 gift of savings and will receive $26.69 in rebates.  I am amazed!

My Drug Store Picks

Don't forget to use any coupons for each store you might have. I have a  $5/$25 for Riteaid.  Almost any deal blog posts the weekly coupon matches for the drug stores, but I try to only post the very best deals. These are the deals I am considering for myself!  Of course, yesterday I had such an embarrassing day at the drugs stores, I didn’t even post my trips.  Hopefully this week will be better!

Ways to Earn Extra Cash (Repost)

I decided to repost this, because of a couple of emails that I have received.  With Thanksgiving and Christmas rapidly approaching, I know that many of you are looking for quick ways to make a little extra cash.

I am always looking for quick ways to supplement our income to help pay off debt and save more money.  I only recommend companies that I have personally worked with and received compensation from. Between all these companies, I have earned over $200 this year (and I haven't been with all the companies for this whole year).  Here are a few of the best ways to earn money and gift cards that I have found:

Swagbucks

Since the end of June, I have earned $65 in Amazon Gift Cards through Swagbucks.  I try to do all my searches at home and school using this search engine.  What is great about swagbucks is that I don't have to do anything else!  If you have already signed up for Swagbucks, and haven't been using it I recommend the toolbar.  It is a great way to make free money for gifts for Christmas and other holidays.  If you haven't signed up yet, it is FREE and easy to use!  Click on the banner below to sign up today.

Search & Win

Opinion Outpost

There are many survey companies out there, and some of them are less than reputable.  I love Pinecone Research, but they don't have open enrollment all the time.  My second favorite company is Opinion Outpost.  I have earned $19.20 in surveys and referrals since the end of June.  Not a ton of cash, but it will help around the holidays.

My Points

I have been a member of My Points for about 1 year now.  I have never bought anything through the site.  I only click the emails and take the surveys.  You can also earn points by buying things online.  In the year I have been with them, I have earned enough points to receive $35 in gift cards.  Clicking the emails is not hard, but I would recommend you send these to your junk email account.  I get an average of 3-5 emails per day.

Send Earnings

This is another email clicking site, although they also offer surveys and advertising.  So far I have earned $12.64 since July, and the payout is at $30.  I estimate that will take me until July of next year, but with very minimal effort. Click below to find out more.

You Data

You Data pays you via Pay Pal for looking at their ads.  I don't think I fit their criteria very well, because I rarely have new ads.  I have heard of people making between $3-$5 per week just by quickly viewing ads.  So far, I have sent hubby around  $.09 a week.  Not a lot, but if you have kids, I know you can earn more.

Ebates

This is a cash back for shopping online site that I love.  I have earned $75 in one year by shopping online through this site for making purchases that I would have made anyway.  I highly recommend Ebates to anyone. I use some other cash back sites, but this is the most reliable and often the highest payout.

Super Saturday Shopping!

I have to admit.  Having a sinus infection, laryngitis, and then the flu put a damper on my shopping for a few weeks.  I even let hubby go out and buy *gasp* full price steaks one night, because I really wanted them!  I love having a stockpile, though, because we have had plenty of food while I was sick.  We are running out of a few things, so I went out today, trying to fill a few gaps.  I picked up a couple of cases of water at Walgreens, because I had an expiring RR.  I was also able to pick up some very inexpensive items for my 30 day giving challenge!

Harris Teeter

DSCN0920

I got all this for $19.93.  I decided to pick up a small turkey after all.  I thought that it would be good for spring. Or who knows, a needy family may pop up next week!  I saved over $38!

Lowes Foods

DSCN0921

I found one more coupon for the Eagle Milk.  I picked up the mac and cheese to donate.  The sour cream was $.09 after a blinkie coupon.  My total was $3.44, and I saved over $10.

Food Lion

DSCN0922

I got all this for $8.63! The 10 boxes of Stove Top were $1 each, and then I had two coupons that took off $2 each from a tearpad with the stuffing. (Thanks Lisa for emailing me this.) I also had 2 $1/2 printable coupons for the soups, which made them about $.10 each!  I saved over $20.

Not too shabby for the grocery stores!  Now I have to admit, I had some embarrassing trips to the drugs stores today.  I had to return things at two different stores, because I messed up.  I also spent way too much at CVS, because of some misleading information on another blog.  I just wanted to tell you, because everyone makes mistakes in couponing! (Even the Coupon Teacher!)

Bargain Meal of the Week for Harris Teeter

This week looks like a good week to make pizza.

I use a great pizza crust recipe I picked up from Money Saving Mom.  It tastes even better if you let the dough rise a while after kneading.

Pizza Crust:
1 Tbsp. active dry yeast  (free after $.50 coupon for Fleishman's pizza crust yeast)
1 cup warm water (105 to 115 degrees F.)
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
2 1/2 cups flour (on sale this week for $1.79)

Dissolve the yeast in the water. Add the rest of the ingredients in and mix.

Dump onto a floured surface .

Knead into a smooth dough (five minutes or so).

Roll out and press down onto a greased pizza pan.

Open 1 can of tomato sauce, seasoned to taste (I use Italian seasoning and garlic salt) and spread over crust. (No need for pricy “pizza” sauce.)

Sprinkle mozzarella cheese over sauce (.97 for e-vic members).

Top with Hormel pepperoni ($1.90 after coupon) and other yummy toppings.  My favorite is banana peppers.

Bake at 450 degrees F. for around 12-15 minutes until the crust looks crispy and lightly browned.
Enjoy!

Christmas Challenge Update

My Family

Mom-started and almost finished ($4)

Dad-finished ($40) (I was shocked at the total, but still think I can come in under budget!)

Sister-finished $6 total after RR, rebate and prescription transfers

Brother-started, ordered Gift Card with MyPoints $0, yippee!

BIL-no ideas!

Nephew #1-almost enough Swagbucks for the CD player, anyone interested in signing up under me so I can earn more?

Nephew #2-finished $10

So, I guess my total for my family so far is $60.  I still have $40 to spend on them, if I need it!

Hubby’s Family

Mom-need an idea

Dad-need an idea

SIL and Boyfriend-have an idea for something I can pick up on Black Friday at Kohl’s

Grandma and Boyfriend-have an idea, not yet purchased

Uncle-finished $40 at Bass Pro Shop

So as you can tell, I am struggling a bit with hubby’s family, but I have only spent $40 so far!

Charity

I am on the list to adopt a student at school.  I also bought my best friends’ kids Christmas outfits for pictures and church while I was out this weekend.

Gift Exchanges

I was able to pick up some lotion and body wash at Bath and Body Works for $5 each.  They were holiday scented too! This will be great for a gift exchange.

So far, I am doing great with my budget.  I just hope I can keep it up.  Black Friday is already calling my name…..must….not….use credit card!

How are you doing so far? Any great gift ideas?

E-vic Special

Check your email!  I got an alert that not only does HT have the turkey for $.59 lb., but through e-vic, I can get Stove Top, Cranberries, and Green Beans for free.  The only catch I see is that it requires an additional $25 dollar purchase.  I don't have Thanksgiving dinner at my house (it is at my mom's), but I hope some of you are able to take advantage of this deal!

Yesterday's Lowes Trip

Using Instasave coupons and the $.55/1 coupon for the Eagle milk from this Sunday's paper, I got all this for $4.99.  Great deal for the cheese.  The macaroni and cheese will be donated too.

Children’s Book Review and Giveaway CLOSED

I received a set of books to read from Pretty Please Press. Their whole concept is about publishing books that can not only be read aloud, but to spark conversation between adults and children. Which was exciting to me, because I am a teacher. The books that Pretty Please Press publish all contain a message. These books would make a great Christmas present or donation to a school near you!

This story is about Bella who is a Basset that fell in love with the ballet. She decided she wanted to become a dancer. Bella was persistent even though she was constantly told that she was not meant to dance.  I enjoyed reading this book, and I think that any little girl would.

This story is about a purple creature called a Pynx. The creature moved to a neighborhood where there were other creatures who were different. Unfortunately the rest of the neighbors did not like her and considered her to be a nuisance. Personally, this was my least favorite book.  I think it could have been a lot better.

Sam was in a karate class and all he thought about was getting a black belt. He began the class thinking he knew it all and that everything was pretty easy. He soon found out it was not so easy. Sam learned that anything you want to be good at requires practice. This would help teach kids that anything is possible if you set your mind to it and practice.

This book was my favorite.  Lavinia and Emmeline were two sisters who just could not get along. They argued and fought constantly.  I think the lesson was a great one for kids today.

Coupon Binder Giveaway Winner

The coupon binder and some coupons go to Kirsten, who said, "My organizing coupons doesn't include some fancy binder or folder. Nope. I use a rusty old paperclip that has seen better days to hold all my coupons in place. It's embarrassing when I go grocery shopping and carrying everything around. The stares I get when I drop the coupons on the ground. Trying to pick them all up. And at the check-out I have to explain to the cashier my poor pitiful excuse of a coupon method. Because I don't have anything better to carry my coupons in. To win your giveaway would be a blessing. A very much needed blessing."

Thanks for entering my giveaway Kirsten!  I can tell you will put this to good use.

Check back tomorrow for the winner of the Robin Meade book and another great giveaway!

Saving on Groceries in a Tough Economy Part 3

Part 1 and Part 2

Tip #5 Utilize Drug Store Deals

Usually we don’t think about getting groceries at a drug store.  Before you do think about it, always check the expiration dates on the food you buy. I always try to use overage from RR and ECB to pick up some needed grocery items.  My recent candle deal at CVS is a great example.  The candle was going to be $3.49 after coupon and was going to give me $6.99 in ECB.  I wanted to pay with a $5 ECB so I found some great clearance grocery items to bring my total to $5.  This week at Walgreens tomato sauce is free after coupon.

I have found that the drug stores are usually the best places to buy pop (soda) and candy for the holidays as well.  At Walgreens, we all need filler items on occasion.  Most people just find the cheapest item for the week, but who says a loaf of bread or some other small on sale grocery item can’t be a good filler.  You may pay a little more than you are used to at the drug store, but probably a little less than at the grocery store.

Tip #6  Buy Produce in Season or Plant Your Own

Trying to make fresh pumpkin pie in the spring is unheard of right? Unless you have a ton of frozen pumpkin. So why do we insist on using other recipes that call for ingredients that aren’t in season?  Summertime is known for apple pies, yet the best time to buy cheap fresh apples is the fall.  Knowing what fruits and veggies are fresh and in season will help you save on produce.

Of course, you all know that I grow a lot of my own veggies during the summer.  I definitely don’t have a green thumb, and I didn’t do great keeping up with things this year.  But I still had a garden, and it provided plenty of produce for hubby and I all summer!

I found a great list of in season fruits and vegetables here.

Check back soon for two more tips!

Book Review and Giveaway

9781599951645_Outside_Front_Jacket_00000000-91-135-24-jpegI received a copy of Morning Sunshine!  by Robin Meade from Hachette Book Group this week in the mail.  As you know, I have been down with the flu all weekend, so I had some great time to read the book.

Here is a quick Synopsis:

Robin Meade is the poster child for confidence and self-assurance. But the anchor of Morning Express with Robin Meade wasn't always that way. In fact, there was a period in her career when she was plagued with anxiety and panic attacks. In MORNING SUNSHINE, she tells how she overcame her fear of public speaking to go on and achieve her dream of becoming a news anchor.

Likes:   I have never personally dealt with anxiety attacks, but I could definitely relate to some of Robin’s self confidence issues.  She includes some of my favorite quotes, and some new ones I enjoyed. This book is funny and true to life.  I have a few friends that deal with anxiety that I plan to pass it to.

Dislike: I was disappointed by some of the language used.  The book could have been just as good without it.

I know I have some readers out there who are Robin Meade fans (my hubby is).

I have the chance to give away 5 copies of this book! That’s right, there will be 5 winners!

-Giveaway copies will be sent directly to winners from the publisher.

-Only residents of the U.S. or Canada are eligible to win. (No P.O. Boxes)

Harris Teeter Triples Matchups 11/4

*I will update as I find more deals!*

I am definitely not perfect, so please let me know if I have made any mistakes or left anything off! Only three like coupons will double or triple per transaction. My Harris Teeter will not double or triple coupons that say DO NOT DOUBLE (DND), especially internet printables. If I have included any matchups with these kind of coupons, keep in mind that they may not triple. I usually just put that item back. The official coupon policy is that these will not triple.

HT policy is to double 20 coupons PER DAY PER HOUSEHOLD. The registers are now programmed to double or triple only 20 coupons per day, so make sure any $1 coupons are on the bottom of the stack. Let's all stick to the rules, so HT will continue to offer triples.

If the list looks confusing to you, go here to find common abbreviations for coupons.
