Bargain Meal of the Week
baby back ribs (BOGO), racks cut in half
apple juice, your favorite marinade, or a dash of whiskey (it cooks off anyway, so I am not telling which we use...)
crushed red pepper
salt
pepper
garlic salt
BBQ sauce
Cut and rinse ribs. Season as desired. Put ribs in aluminum foil, and add liquid. Wrap tightly in foil. Cook in the oven at 250 degrees for 3 hours. Allow to cool, and refrigerate overnight. Throw ribs on hot grill, and brush on BBQ sauce. Cook until heated through. Enjoy.....I don't like ribs and I love these!
Serve with baked potatoes ($3 for 5 pounds this week) and fresh veggies from the garden or farmers market.

Lowe's Foods Deals 7/29
Geocaching at Teacher Academy (fun for free)
I don't usually post about things other than great deals, meals, and coupons, but I am going to venture from the norm to tell you about a really neat thing I did yesterday.
I went geocaching with a team of teachers from my school. We were at a NC university, and there were 16 caches hidden.
We used a handheld GPS to find each one, and we were the first team finished. At each stop we found the stick man Oliver, and we had to pose for some pictures.
The first person to guess which person is me, wins an envelope of coupons. My mom and mother-in-law are disqualified from the competition.
I will send them out as soon as I return home. I decided to feature these pictures, because for the cost of a GPS (as low as $69) you can go have loads of fun with your family. Some geocaches have clues, and some are linked to historical places, so it can be educational as well. I would recommend it to anyone with a few navigating skills!

Bargain Meal of the Week
Steak fettucini alfredo
Ingredients:
1 lb. ribeye steak ($5.99/lb.)
1 package fettucini noodles (buitoni .29 after coupon)
1 jar alfredo sauce ($2.69 or use from stockpile)
1 package fresh sliced mushrooms ($2.50 or pick up at Aldi's)
1 medium onion (.30)
brown sugar (.20)
Butter (.20)
Total time 45 minutes
Preparation
Cook noodles as per package instructions. Melt butter in large skillet. Add mushrooms and sliced onions to the butter. Cook over medium heat until soft and starting to brown. Add brown sugar to taste. Cook steaks on the grill as desired. Warm alfredo sauce in medium sauce pan. Serve noodles and top with steak, carmalized onions and mushrooms, and sauce. You may want to top with a little shredded parmesean cheese and parsley flakes.
This may not be a $5 dinner, but it will be sure to please and is a lot cheaper than Olive Garden!

Reader Question/ Common Coupon Abbreviations
First, thanks so much for the Coupon Teacher website! I just signed up this week & received my first email today. Unfortunately, being very new to this online coupon world, I cannot decipher any of the information beside the grocery items listed……Blinkie? 5/3 SS? LINK? June All You?....
Sincerely,
A New Reader
Most coupons come from one of three types of Sunday paper coupon inserts.
P&G = Procter & Gamble Sunday insert
RP = Red Plum
SS = SmartSource
When I list a coupon insert, I usually abbreviate it like this 12/31 SS. This means that the coupon came from the Smartsource on 12/31. Many people don't actually cut out all the coupons, only write dates on the inserts for use later. I use the binder method, and that is a whole different post!
$1/1, $1/2, etc. = One dollar off one item, one dollar off two items
2/$1, 3/$2, etc. = Two items for one dollar, three items for two dollars
BOGO = Buy one item get one item free
B2GO = Buy two items get one item free
B1G2 = Buy one get two free (usually at Harris Teeter)
Blinkies = Grocery/drugstore coupon dispensers with blinking lights
Cat = Catalina coupon, prints from a separate machine when your receipt prints
CRT = Cash register tape, referring to CVS coupons that print on receipt
ECBs = ExtraCare Bucks, CVS rewards system
FAR = Free after rebate
IP = Internet printable coupon
MFR = Manufacturer
MIR = Mail-in rebate
OYNO = On your next order
OOP = Out of pocket
Peelie = Peel-off coupon found on product packaging
RRs = Register Rewards, Walgreens’ Catalina coupons
SCR = Single Check Rebate, Rite Aid monthly rebates program
WT = Wine tag, no alcohol purchase necessary to use these coupons
WYB = When you buy
YMMV = You mileage may vary, some stores may allow you to do a deal, some may not.

Favorite Recipe Blog Hop
This recipe is great for leftover meat. I have used ham, turkey, smoked sausage, and chicken. Some recipes even call for rabbit or squirrel, but I leave those out! It tastes good any way.
1 pound of leftover (cooked) meat in chunks
1 can tomato sauce
2 cans diced tomatoes
1 can or frozen package of corn
1/2 package of frozen okra
1 medium onion diced
parsley
Worcestershire sauce (three generous shakes)
salt
pepper
dash of thyme
cayenne pepper (to taste)
1 bay leaf
optional: lima beans or other soup veggies (I have used carrots.)
Put all ingredients into a slow cooker and cook on low for 4-8 hours. Usually the longer you cook it, the better it tastes, but watch for burning. Enjoy!

A Few Groceries
I stopped by Harris Teeter today and found these delicious ice cream treats that hubby loves. Both were Buy One, Get One, so they rang up half price! I had a $1 off coupon for both, so the total was $3.03. That is less than regular price for 1!
I also found a few things at Food Lion. I got the Bic razors for .60 each on clearance(I haven't found any CVS clearance ones.) The eggs were .39 after the guiding stars FLIP. The cupcake mix was free after the $1 cake FLIP. I spend a whopping $2.11!
Menu Monday
Monday-Grilled Chicken and Veggies
Tuesday-Friday=Mom's Choice (I am going to WV to visit for a few days.)
*I hope we have taco salad!* (Thanks mom!)
Saturday-Spaghetti with easy meatballs The meatballs are easy and delicious.
Since my menu is short this week, be sure to check out a few more at I'm an Organizing Junkie.

Mail Call!

Well...actually FedEx. I got my skin care bag from Riteaid. It came with tons of sample sized stuff, and two coupons for free Riteaid brand items. I was excited, and I think it is neat. But let me say this...if I had paid full price for the items I bought to get this bag, I would have been sorely disappointed. I didn't even know I qualified until it showed up on my rebate page, so bonus for me!
Kmart Toy Clearance

The closest Kmart to me is about 25 minutes away and not near anything else I drive to. Today I had to head that direction for a doctor's appointment and decided to pop in and check out this toy clearance I have been hearing about. Well, since I don't have kids and my budget is tight this month, I didn't get much. But I did get a great deal on a Catch Phrase game for $3.50! I plan on using this a gift exchange gift this Christmas. If you start looking for things at great deals now, the holidays will be a lot less stressful. This game was originally $28.99 so I was really pleased. If you have kids, I highly recommend a trip to Kmart tonight or tomorrow before it is too late!

New Look Around Here...
Wednesday Deals
Food Lion has some really good FLIPS out this week. Go to see Jenny at Southern Savers to print them.
alcohol
mushrooms
bananas
2 bottles ken's dressing
forks
travel wipes
Using the Flips, I got all this for $2.04 in two transactions, because you can only use 1 like FLIP per transaction. I used the $1 Home 360 flip on the forks and wipes, the $1 Healthy Accents Flip for the alcohol, the $1 Guiding stars flip on the mushrooms and bananas, and the $2 off 2 Flip for the Ken's Dressing. I love that the guiding stars FLIP can be used on almost anything in the store, so I looked for two things close to a $1 that don't go on sale often.
Lowes Foods
I also got all this at Lowes Foods using coupons for the Poptarts and Mini Wheats. I also had instasave coupons that I forgot about (you aren't supposed to use the instasave and regular coupons together, but I have a hard time keeping up with it). The Frosted Flakes had a peelie coupon for $1 off any fresh fruit, so I picked up 3 fresh peaches, yum. After the $3.00 instant savings for buying 5 new products, the total was $2.17!

Run to Your Target (or call first)!

The summer patio furniture at my Target was 75% off this morning. These chairs were regularly $74 each and I got them for $18.50 each.

My total for the bins (75% off), the chairs (75% off) and the cat food was $50.50!
I really needed the chairs, mine were broken and falling apart!
I hope you can find some too!

I won!!!
I won two boxes of Chex Mix bars from Sara.
and.....
I won a new blog header from Marli! I am so excited to see what she can create for me!
Have you won any giveaways lately or do you want to tell me about a great giveaway while I am feeling lucky? If so, let me a comment below!
Meal Plan Monday

Monday-Baked Deer Steak (I use cream of mushroom soup mixed with dry onion soup.) Delicious! Mashed potatoes and salad
Tuesday-Grilled bacon cheeseburgers, curly fries, and sliced tomatoes
Wednesday-Dinner with friends
Thursday-Mom's Meatloaf (see recipe below) Mac and Cheese and fried squash
Friday-Grilled Chicken, rice and green beans
Saturday-Homemade Pizza
For more ideas, check out Organizing Junkie.
Mom's Meatloaf
2 pounds ground beef
1 package of saltine crackers, crushed
1 egg
Worcestershire Sauce (dash)
1 can of ABC vegetable soup (not beef)
salt
pepper
ketchup
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Combine all ingredients except ketchup in large bowl. Mixture should be moist, but not too sticky. Add more crackers or a little oatmeal if necessary. Spray a baking pan with nonstick spray, and spread meatloaf mixture into about a 2-2 1/2 inch thick shape. Poke holes in shape with wooden spoon or finger. Pour desired amount of ketchup over the top (I like a lot). Bake in oven for about 1 hour-1 hour 20 minutes, or until cooked through.
The vegetable soup makes this recipe moist and delicious! Thanks MOM!

CVS Success!

I got all this at CVS for $6.95 and $12.98 in ECB. I got $16.27 back in ECB. I saved over $32.00 too! I would have done a little better if I had done the head and shoulders in a separate transaction, but I haven't been to CVS in several weeks, so I am a little rusty. I missed CVS!
Anyone else have a success or find a great deal I missed? If so, leave me a comment with a link!

200th Post!
1. It has taken me a long time, but I have finally acknowledged the twelve week rule (only buy what you need for twelve weeks). I just don't need 12 warm delights or 6 boxes of potato flakes for a family of two. (Especially not if I buy them every time they go on sale.)
2. I will never pay for toothbrushes again.
3. Defrost your chest freezer every year--you will be surprised by what you find.
4. Donate often and be generous.
5. Stick to a budget. This has been hard for me this year, but I have greatly restricted my spending with my $100 challenges.
6. OJ and chocolate milk are rarely really good deals, but hubby can drink two cartons a week if I buy it.
7. I love John Frieda Weather Works shampoo and conditioner.
8. There is always another deal.
9. Some things rarely go on sale.
10. Keep a list of things you shouldn't buy unless they're free.
11. Keep a list of things you NEED if you stay under budget.
12. Try to stay organized.
13. A household of two does not need more than two newspapers or the coupon caddy breaks. See my post about the coupon binder system.
14. Thank the people who help you along the way, especially the nice cashiers.
15. Eat out less often. Homemade or even prepackaged stuff is healthier.
16. It is ok to splurge within your budget.
17. I have resigned to being called a coupon lady.
18. Buy trash bags, tortillas and tomato sauce whenever they go on sale. (I just can't keep enough of these items, and you have this problem too. Just maybe different items)
19. Don't buy too many sweets. You can't possible eat them all, I've tried.
20. Have fun and spend wisely!!!!
Amazing Harris Teeter Shop with Rebates

Wow! I really amazed myself this time! I worked out a sweet deal at Harris Teeter with two rebates and a ton of coupons. I got a lot of needs for company this weekend, some items for my stockpile, and I got some needs for this week as well. Here is what I did.
1. Bought a $50 gift card to use with a rebate that will get me $20 back.
2. Bought at least $30 of groceries for a BBQ to get $15 back and used the gift card.
So, I spent a total of $39.84 on the gift card. (Still have $10.16 to spend later.)
I saved $47.79 using sales and coupons.
So when you subtract the $35 I will receive in rebates, I spent a real $4.84 out of pocket!!!!!
Here is what I purchased:
4 cases of coke
1 case of pibb

Last Night's Delicious Dinner!
Last night I made the Sticky Chicken, and it was amazing!! I also made a pasta dish that I find the ingredients that I found on another blog yesterday, but I can't find it today. I did make some changes though! I called it warm pasta salad.
Warm Pasta Salad (my way)
1 small or 1/2 big squash
1 small or 1/2 big zucchini
1/2 medium onion chopped
3 cloves garlic
3 medium fresh or 1 Small Can Diced Tomatoes
1 T olive oil
3/4 cup chicken broth
8 ounces Pasta cooked and drained
1/2 cup cream or I used evaporated milk
fresh basil
salt and pepper
1 T flour
Saute the squash, onion, and garlic in the olive oil. After 1/3 done, add zucchini and tomatoes. Cook until veggies are almost ready, and add chicken broth and flour. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium/low. Stir in cream/milk until desired consistency. Enjoy!
