Harris Teeter Final Run?

Due to the lack of great deals in the new Sunday coupon department and using all my old coupons up, I made what is probably my last run to Harris Teeter before church this morning.

Used .55 coupons on the 100 calorie packs (.35 each after coupon)
Used a catalina coupon for $1.50 on the sauce (free after coupon)
Used a .50 coupon on the sour cream (free after coupon)

OOP .78 Saved $7.xx

I still have $63.99 to spend until June 20th.

CVS

All this for .77! Used $7.99 in ECB, but got $5.99 back!

Lowes Foods Cereal Deal

Lowes has a weekly coupon out for Kelloggs cereal for $1.79. They are also doing a promo, buy 4 save $4. If you have the Kelloggs printables from last month and the instasave coupon like I did, we have a money maker on our hands. The coupons and instasave aren't supposed to work together, but mine did automatically. The $4 came off too, although I couldn't find it anywhere on the receipt. This cereal will probably go fast in this economy. Hurry to your store.

I got all this stuff for .19 and .15 of that was tax!!!!

I hope everyone has the printables!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Also, if you have a Lowes foods nearby and are interested in me doing coupon match-ups, leave me a comment. I am trying to see how many of my readers are local to NC or SC!

$100 dollar shopping challenge

*Losing $224 in pay for May

*Spending some extra money on dad's birthday present that didn't work out

*Teacher Assistant End of Year Gift

*other unexpected purchases

With the school year nearing its end and my budget in shambles (I'm hanging in there mom, don't worry), I am issuing a new challenge for myself and any of my followers who would like to join in.

Between now and June 20 when I am due at the beach (yea!), I am only going to spend $100 at the stores. I don't plan to include my assistant's gift in this one hundred dollars, but I will list everything else. This will be tough for me, because I am tempted to chase many deals. BUT this will help restore some sanity to my bank account. I have a well rounded stockpile, and no major pitfalls in sight. I also have $18 in ECB for CVS, and $14 in RR for Walgreens. So I think I can make $100 last for 26 days! Wish me luck! I will keep you posted along the way.

Menu Monday

Monday-chopped pork bbq, slaw, and baked beans
Tuesday-Spaghetti with meat sauce (I didn't get this fixed last week.)
Wednesday-Dinner with friends
Thursday-Pork Jambalaya
Friday-Calzones
Saturday-School Carnival

Saturday, May 23, 2009

No coupons tomorrow!

Because it is Memorial weekend, there will be no coupon inserts in the paper tomorrow. Enjoy a weekend off from coupon hunting, and remember those who died for our country!

My Walgreens Deal

With the $5 off $25 coupon today, I bought all this for $21.77 and got $8.50 in RR. I think this is great considering the retail price of the white trays is $38.99!

Wednesday, May 20, 2009

Mail Call

So far this week I have received:

$19.65 from ebates
$21.00 from ace hardware
a free coupon for ketchup

What else will come today?

Walgreens Coupon-I might use after all.

My hubby loves the aquafresh white trays, because he has sensitive teeth and some dental work. There is a $15 off coupon in the Walgreens ad, and if you search their site there is a $7 manufacturer coupon. If I pair these with the 5 off of $25, it should make them a pretty good deal this week! Hope this helps someone else too!

Brunswick Stew Recipe

With the cold snap on the East Coast and the leftover ham from Saturday, I decided to make Brunswick stew. This recipe is great for leftover meat. I have used ham, turkey, smoked sausage, and chicken. Some recipes even call for rabbit or squirrel, but I leave those out! It tastes good any way.

1 pound of leftover (cooked) meat in chunks
1 can tomato sauce
2 cans diced tomatoes
1 can or frozen package of corn
1/2 package of frozen okra
1 medium onion diced
parsley
Worcestershire sauce (three generous shakes)
salt
pepper
dash of thyme
cayenne pepper (to taste)
1 bay leaf

optional: lima beans or other soup veggies (I have used carrots.)

Put all ingredients into a slow cooker and cook on low for 4-8 hours. Usually the longer you cook it, the better it tastes, but watch for burning. Enjoy!

I hope some of you Harris Teeter readers out there have the same luck!

Homemade Pizza

Friday night I made my best homemade pizza ever!

I made my own sauce using tomato sauce (free), diced tomatoes (free), oregano, basil, garlic salt and crushed red pepper. I can't give you the exact recipe, because I don't know how much I put in! I used a pizza dough recipe from Money Saving Mom, which cost less than a $1 to make. The pepperoni was around .40 on sale a few months ago, and the cheese less than $1. Delicious homemade pizza for around $3.00.

I am sorry about my blog award!

I picked up a terrible virus somehow accepting my blog award (which I am still honored to be suggested for). I had to delete the entire post and many of the comments from the last few days. $100 later, and several hours labor on my hubby's part, our computer is ok. I hope the blog is too! Ladies, I sincerely hope that I did not pass anything along, and if I did, it was not my intention. I love all your blogs, keep up the great work!

To my followers:

Until I have this glitch figured out, I have had to moderate and possibly disable comments. (That seems to be where the problem is originating.) Sorry for the inconvenience! I will try my best to get things back up and running soon!

One of my followers posted this question as a comment, and I think it was a good one.

How can I go about getting inserts from other regions? I would love to make sure that I get all the coupons...not just the ones for my region!!

Answer:

I have a few recommendations for you. Some papers mail subscriptions to readers in other states, but this is pricey. Some people join coupon trains where they pass coupons from different areas in the country around a few times a month. (I don't have time to organize this, but if you wanted to get a chain together I'd be a part of it! Contact me if interested.) Some people order multiple coupons they want from ebay (I never have.) Others order coupons from clipper sites like Coupon Master or the Coupon Clippers.

Here is the web address from the only site I have personally used (the only one I feel I can recommend, because I know it works).

Reader Question

Hello,

Today I was browsing some deals and found out about your site.

I'm from Charlotte and I also do couponing. I started it an year ago and is going pretty good.

I have some products that I bought from good deals but don't use them (ex: shampoos, conditioners, tooth pastes etc). I want to make some money from these items but I have no idea on how to sell them. Can you suggest me any consignment store or some other store where I can sell these?

BTW, advanced happy birthday..!!!

Thanks,
A READER

Answer: The first thing that comes to mind is having a yard sale, because I don't know of many stores that will sell them for you. Next, if you don't need the money, I would think about donating it to someone in need at a church or school. Finally, I occasionally take things to work to sell. Shampoo and condition go pretty quick for $1 at a yard sale or around teachers. Do any of my other readers have a comment or solution?

So buy 3 - get $3 off = free

Also Hefty trash bags are Buy One Get One Free. Use a $1 coupon to get them for around $2.70 for a 45 pack.

These are the two best deals in my opinion. The rest are just so-so. Go over to Southern Savers for a complete coupon match-up!

Update on My "Furlough"

It is just as I suspected. The state (NC) is giving all employees ten flexible hours in exchange for .5% of the years pay. This is not optional, and teachers are getting the worse of the deal.

(1) Employees using flexible furlough leave shall coordinate the leave times with their immediate supervisor or principal. Additional levels of approval are not required.

(2) Flexible furlough leave can be taken in any increment.

(3) Classroom teachers, media specialists, and teacher assistants who require substitutes and bus drives may not use flexible furlough leave at any time that students are scheduled to be in attendance (an instructional day).

(4) Employees may use flexible furlough leave beginning May 1, 2009. Flexible furlough leave must be taken by December 31, 2009.

(5) Flexible furlough leave cannot be paid out when separating from service for any reason.

Teachers won't even have much opportunity to take this unpaid time off, but we will probably be forced to take it on a teacher workday (when we need to plan, work on the classroom, or average grades.)

I try not to be too negative on this blog or in real life, so just let me say, "Thank God that my husband and I have jobs and are blessed with health and happiness!"

Coupon Binder

After a few evenings of work, I am almost finished with my coupon binder. I have a place in the front for coupons I plan to use this week.
I have a place for store specific coupons.

I have sections for house supplies, health/beauty supplies, pet, and food.

I think I am really going to like this method, if I can get past the embarrassment of carrying it around with me. I am not quite sure why I feel this way, but I do. For some reason, my huge bulging caddy seemed more discrete (although I know it wasn't). For about 8 months, I have been using a large envelope caddy for house supplies and food, and a small purse sized caddy for health/beauty supplies. It was working ok, but it definitely was not ideal for a serious couponer like myself. I found a few neat articles about binders here and here, if you, like me, are new to the whole binder idea.

If you have a binder and love it, please give me some encouragement. Also, if you have any suggestions on how to improve my binder organization, please let me know!!!

CVS deal

I picked all this up at CVS today for $2.07 and rolled my $15 in ECB into $16 in ECB!

I used a Buy One Get One Free coupon and a $1 off from a Vocalpoint mailer on the Frosted Mini Wheats. It made each box .30 after ECB! I haven't seen this deal blogged anywhere else, but if you got the home mailer, it is worth looking into!

Cinco de Mayo Meal

I made a fast and frugal version of enchiladas verdes tonight, and I really like them. Hubby still said he prefers red sauce, but for a family who likes Mexican type dishes this will be great. I had 5 tortillas left over from another meal, and this made the perfect amount to fit in them. (So if you have a big family you will want to double.)This recipe is adapted from an All You recipe from January. They called for rotisserie chicken, but I opted for faster and cheaper canned chicken.

16 oz. canned chicken
1/2 vidalia onion
1 can diced chiles
tortillas (I used flour, but corn would work too)
salsa verde (I got some at Lowes Foods this week for .50!)
cheddar or mexican cheese
cilantro

Preheat oven to 375
I sauteed the onions, and then added the chicken, chiles, and about 1/4 cup of salsa into the pan. I mixed and continued cooking until everything was warm. I took the mixture and spooned it into the center of the tortillas. I rolled the tortillas tightly, poured an ample amount of salsa verde over the top, and sprinkled the cheese. It needs to bake for about 20 minutes. Serve with the cilantro on top! I hope you like them as well as me!

Walgreens and Lowes Foods Deals

Walgreens

I paid with my gift card (7.20) and RR (7.50)

I received $9.00 in RR. It helped that I had $1 off right guard, .75 cents off colgate, and $1.50 off oreos and milk! Oreos are hubby's favorite!

This came to $9.93, which I thought was pretty good considering the potatoes, salad and bread were bought without coupons! Plus I will get $2.99 back for the Men's Sure marked Try ME FREE!
