If you haven’t had the chance to read it, I am finishing up a series on Honest Couponing.

Part 3
7. Don’t take more than you can donate or use. If you use all your coupons and clear out the shelves, that means there will be other families that week not getting the great deals. I had problems when I first started couponing with knowing how much to buy, but you get the hang of it after a while. I know I don’t need 10 free air fresheners. But I might use 10 cans of tomato sauce before it goes on sale again. Only buying what your family can use or donate helps everyone, including you. (Think of an overflowing unorganized stockpile!) Remember sales cycle around, and everything will go back on sale again!
I think that honest couponing is all about educating yourself about coupons. If you know the rules, you can try your best to follow them correctly. Here is my rule of thumb: If using a coupon or doing a deal makes my neck prickle, I probably shouldn’t be doing it. I have backed out of a few deals for this very reason. There are enough deals out there that I shouldn’t risk my conscience for a great deal. If you follow your conscience and know the rules, you will be a happier, more successful couponer!
